The Sea Is Safer Than The Land, 2023

In this video work, which is one minute long and loops continuously, I depict a life jacket drifting along the coastline. This visual element is deeply personal, drawing from my own smuggling journey across the Mediterranean Sea in an overcrowded rubber boat meant for 20 but carrying 55 people. In the video, I whisper and recite a poem by Warsan Shire in Arabic.
