Not Coming Back To Home’s Lap, 2022

20 x 20 cm

Sculpture using acetate mold of a life-size woman’s pelvis, hand-woven bird’s nest, and a valid Syrian passport

This sculpture juxtaposes elements of birth, identity, and displacement. A human pelvis symbolizing the seat of creation and life is intertwined with a bird's nest, a common representation of home and belonging. Nestled within is a Syrian passport, highlighting my complex relationship with my homeland, citizenship, and the precariousness of identity in exile. The work elicits a deep sense of longing, fragility, and the liminal space between where one comes from and where one seeks refuge, underscoring the universal human desire for safety, belonging, and identity amidst displacement.
