The Day ISIS Took Over Raqqa, 2023

82 x 54 cm

Watercolors on paper

In the context of a recently devised approach termed "Sleeping as a method," I have immersed myself in an artistic process that involves leveraging the act of sleep as a means to recapture memories of traumatic events. This innovative method has been pivotal in my artistic exploration, particularly within the realm of watercolor techniques. The objective has been to visually articulate the intricate nuances of traumatic encounters through the medium of watercolor.

This work is created using the same method as screen printing, but with watercolors. Each element is painted separately. This project documents the night we were forced to flee our home.
